The Primordial Home

To describe what "home" is to me, I wanted to sublimate the concept, arriving at a more primordial vision of place of origin, starting point, birthplace or, figuratively speaking, nest, den, mother's womb. In my image I decided to represent a cave, which has always symbolized the archetype of the refuge; as for the material I opted for a subsurface scattering shader, commonly used to render human skin, translucent, not transparent. This material, declined in a palette of warm colors, clustered in the muscle fibers (created with a simple displacement), evokes the warm image of a mother's womb. Finally, the landscape is volcanic, to recall the origins of the planet itself, the fervor of the earth and the origins of our home.

To realize this project I used Blender, with Cycles as rendering engine. I used the Quixel Bridge asset collection to build the landscape and modeled the cave from a sphere using the displace modifier with a wood grain texture and some sculpting.
